YES - Potomac has
a GPS approach. We used to have a VOR approach too, off the Andrews
VOR, but the VOR is busted and unreliable, and no one has any intention of
fixing it. The new ('07) GPS approach begins at 1,700 MSL and is then straight in, so it's brain dead simple, AND keeps you out of DCA's hair. AS SOON AS YOU ARE VISUAL WITH THE AIRFIELD

IF YOU MUST - To shoot the published approaches, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE request vectors with a descent to visual conditions. (The minimum radar vectoring altitude in the area is 1,600 MSL.). By requesting this, the controllers can vector you down into Potomac's approach without having to lock-out tons of airspace. BUT - When it's IFR in the area Washington National often has their hands full. (During such times the controller's at Andrews are typically playing cards, such as Fish, Old Maid, etc). It is therefore often far easier to use the extensive next door resources of Andrews AFB.

CONTACT APPROACH: | Can only be initiated by pilot, only to an airport with an IFR approach, flown by reference to the ground, visibility 1 mile & clear of clouds, pilot is responsible for terrain clearance. |
